"Dental Care!" 🪥 new work from the Exclamation Mark series. 20x20 cm
A woman is about to brush her teeth, with toothpaste on her brush. The green color of the toothpaste symbolizes the toxic element. But what’s really in that toothpaste? Fluoride has been promoted for years as essential for strong teeth, but how much do we really know about this substance?
Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, they say, but in high doses, it can be toxic. Did you know that fluoride is used in pesticides and Teflon? In the Netherlands, water fluoridation was halted in 1976 due to health risks, yet we continue to apply it to our teeth.
Children under the age of six should only use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to limit intake. Fluoride can enter our bodies through the mucous membranes in the mouth, even without swallowing it. And yes, we brush daily... but how safe is that in the long term?
Dental Care!, the latest work in the Exclamation Mark series, challenges you to reflect on the impact of fluoride on your health. Should we continue to blindly follow what’s prescribed to us, or is it time to consciously choose alternatives?
What will you choose?
